At a time when there are a lot of people excited about Assassin’s Creed Valhala, I found myself thinking about other games that have the same Nordic theme. With that in mind, I’ve decided to put together a list of titles that can scratch that itch while we wait for AC Valhala. I’ve tried to include different experiences, which might please the most varied interest of the target audience. These games are available on various platforms, including some on Xbox Game Pass.
If you have other suggestions, please leave them in the comments. 🙂
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
It doesn’t require any kind of introduction and can be played on all platforms today. I mean, almost all of them. Has anyone ever tried this on the sixth generation of consoles…? Okay, better not give any ideas.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
Get ready for a very intense journey and I want to leave a special shout-out of the excellent work on the sound design. I highly recommend to play this game with a headset so that the immersion can be even greater. Hellblade is a very different experience than usual and will leave you stunned in so many situations. The game has a few puzzles and also a bit of combat, although both are not the focus of the game at all.
A strategy game that has some particularities in its gameplay. Compared to others in this list, it is a more paused and good title to relax at the end of the day. It has different clans, each with their own perks.
Vikings – Wolves of Midgard
This is perhaps the weakest game of this set of names, but it is still a good option if you prefer some hack & slash vibes. Do you know Diablo III? Now imagine that but with a Nordic theme and you don’t need to know anything else.
Another different game on this list. With gameplay focused on turn-based combat and a good story, this is a highly recommended title for strategy fans. It’s impossible not to mention its very colourful visuals and also the amazing art style.
God of War (2018)
God of War’s reboot has reached astonishing levels of quality. An excellent narrative, coupled with no less excellent gameplay and several RPG elements, culminated in what is easily one of the best games of this generation.
